Bryan Edward Stone is a Professor of History at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, Texas, where he teaches courses in U.S. History and was named the 2019 recipient of the Aileen Creighton Award for Teaching Excellence and 2021 Teacher of the Year. He was also a Visiting Professor at the Schusterman Center for Jewish Studies at the University of Texas at Austin during the summer sessions of 2009-2012.

Bryan is the author of The Chosen Folks: Jews on the Frontiers of Texas (University of Texas Press, 2010), which won the Southern Jewish Historical Society Book Prize in 2011, and the editor of Alexander Gurwitz’s historical memoir Memories of Two Generations: A Yiddish Life in Russia and Texas (University of Alabama Press, 2016). In addition, he is the managing editor of the annual journal Southern Jewish History.

His current research focuses on Jewish immigrants who arrived in the United States through the port of Galveston, Texas, in the early twentieth century. He is also editing for publication the memoir of Morris S. Riskind, a Jewish retailer and farmer/rancher in the border community of Eagle Pass, Texas (forthcoming, Texas Tech University Press).

Bryan holds a Ph.D. in American Studies and Civilization from the University of Texas at Austin and a master’s in English from the University of Virginia.
